Applied Kinesiology is an alternative therapy that assesses the state of the body through light touch and determines what is wrong with the patient. This therapy is known to treat allergic conditions such as allergy, arthritis, and stress. However, scientific ratings show unclear evidence and conventional therapy does not consider kinesiology as a valid method of diagnosis. A research paper presented in a symposium and published in the British Medical Journal conducted a trial to see if the effect on which the kinesiology test depends “exists and is repeatable”.
Twenty patients with food allergy were chosen at random for the clinical trial. The test required the patient to hold the glass bottle, containing the allergens to be tested, in one hand; a positive test is indicated when there is a decrease in muscle power in the contra-lateral arm. The test is repeated with ‘blind’ bottles to see if the effect “exists and is repeatable”. The analysis of the trial showed that the positive response rate was 33 per cent. Thus it could not be proved that kinesiology test is a reliable indicator of food allergy despite having some positive results.
