Acupuncture Analgesia for Acute Pain

ecam.oxfordjournals.org
In the seventies, acupuncture was used in China and Japan as anesthesia in abdominal operations such as appendicitis. Although acupuncture has no side effects and is simple to use, it was found that anesthesia produced by acupuncture had individual variations and took too much time.  Acupuncture analgesia is being considered now as a way to activate the body's endogenous analgesic system and could be used for acute pain such as surgical operations, post- operative pain, neuropathic pain, pain associated with teeth extractions.
