According to a recent article published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, healthy changes in lifestyle and diet may lead to positive genetic changes. The study, which consisted of 30 participants who had been diagnosed with low-risk prostate cancer but refused conventional treatment showed that, after just 3 months, the activity of disease-preventing genes increased while disease-promoting genes, such as those that led to prostate cancer and breast cancer decreased or shut-down altogether. The research was led by Dr. Dean Ornish, a well- known author and head of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California.
