According to a pilot study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, acupuncture may be an effective and an acceptable treatment option for post traumatic stress disorder. Subjects diagnosed with PTSD were randomized to either acupuncture treatment (ACU), a group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), or a wait-list control (WLC). The results were based on the treatment and 3-month follow-up. The study conducted by the doctors from Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Family and Geriatric Medicine, University of Louisville School of Medicine, USA, however, advocated larger trials with additional controls.
