According to German researchers, willow bark may have a moderate analgesic effect and also may be well tolerated in patients with osteoarthritis. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial, seventy-eight patients with osteoarthritis, divided equally into the willow bark group and the placebo group, were treated for pain, stiffness, and physical function.  In this study, willow bark extract, in a dose corresponding to 240 mg/day of salicin, was compared with the placebo over a two week period. The results showed a significant improvement in those being treated with willow bark.  Due to it's pain relieving effects, it is believed that willow bark may be effective in the treatment of many different types of pain.

Mary I had low back pain so severe it caused me to limp and I could not do many activities that I enjoyed. I had tried many different things for the pain including medications and chiropractic but after I started receiving acupuncture on a regular basis my back pain went away. Now, I receive regular treatments once a month and it regulates my health and stops the pain.
