Acupuncture: The practice of acupuncture, or the insertion of needles into the body to move energy or "chi" in a particular area, originated in China 5,000 years ago. Acupuncture has been used traditionally in China for treatment of stroke complications such as paralysis (loss of muscle control and use). Several studies have been conducted in stroke rehabilitation, with positive results. More studies are needed to determine what can be expected in the use of acupuncture with regard to this application.Natural Standard Monograph, Copyright © 2008 (www.naturalstandard.com).
