Clove
: Clove is commonly used as a fragrant or flavoring agent. Clove oil (eugenol) has been used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and to help prevent bacterial infections. Animal studies have shown that clove may help reduce fever. However, human trials are lacking. Further, well-designed trials in humans are necessary to confirm these preliminary findings.Avoid if allergic to Balsam of Peru, clove, eugenol, or some licorice products and tobacco (clove cigarette) products. Avoid with history of seizures, stroke, or with liver damage. Use cautiously if taking medications for diabetes or bleeding disorders. Use cautiously with male impotence. Stop use two weeks before surgery/dental/diagnostic procedures with bleeding risk and do not use immediately after these procedures. Use cautiously if driving or operating machinery.
