Astragalus and Heart Disease and HIV-AIDS Overview

Astragalus : Astragalus products are derived from the roots of Astragalus membranaceus or related species, which are native to China. In Chinese medicine, herbal mixtures containing astragalus have been used to treat heart diseases. There are several human case reports of reduced symptoms and improved heart function with astragalus, although these are not well described. High-quality human research is necessary before a conclusion can be drawn.Avoid if allergic to astragalus, peas, or any related plants. Avoid with inflammation, fever, stroke, transplant, autoimmune disorder, or with a history of Quillaja bark-induced asthma. Avoid with aspirin, aspirin products, or herbs or supplements with similar effects. Stop use two weeks before and immediately after surgery/dental/diagnostic procedures. Use cautiously with bleeding disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, lipid disorders, or kidney disorders.   Read more
