Massage: There are many different types of massage. Touch is fundamental to massage therapy and is used by therapists to locate painful or tense areas, to determine how much pressure to apply, and to establish a therapeutic relationship with clients. It is often used as a complementary therapy to promote well-being, relaxation, pain reduction, stress relief, musculoskeletal injury healing, and quality of life. Massage with or without essential oils has been used in patients with dementia in chronic care facilities to assess effects on behavior. There is compelling early evidence that aromatherapy with essential oils may reduce agitation in patients with dementia, although the effects of massage itself are not clear.Avoid with bleeding disorders or low platelet counts. Areas should not be massaged where there are fractures, weakened bones from osteoporosis or cancer, open or healing skin wounds, skin infections, recent surgery, or blood clots. Read more
