Bromelain and Rectal Cancer Overview

Bromelain: Bromelain is a sulfur-containing proteolytic digestive enzyme that is extracted from the stem and the fruit of the pineapple plant (Ananas comosus). There is not enough information recommending its use for or against the treatment of cancer, whether bromelain is used alone or in addition to other therapies. One small study found that a bromelain supplement decreased tumor size in 12 breast cancer patients. Patients took the supplements for a number of months to years. Caution is advised when taking bromelain supplements due to their adverse effects, which include blood thinning and a number of drug interactions.Natural Standard Monograph, Copyright © 2008 (www.naturalstandard.com).
