Vitamin E and Respiratory Disorders Overview

Vitamin E: Daily supplementation with oral vitamin E does not appear to affect the incidence, duration, or severity of pneumonia (lower respiratory tract infections) in elderly nursing home residents or alter patterns of antibiotic use, although there may be a protective effect against colds (upper respiratory tract infections). Additional research is warranted. Caution is advised when taking vitamin E supplements, as adverse effects including an increase in bleeding and drug interactions are possible. Vitamin E supplements should not be used if pregnant or breastfeeding, unless otherwise directed by a doctor.Natural Standard Monograph, Copyright © 2008 (www.naturalstandard.com).
