Bupleurum and Wilson's Disease Overview

Bupleurum: Bupleurum (Bupleurum falcatum) has been widely used for over 2,000 years in Asia and is used today in Japan and China for hepatitis, cirrhosis, and other conditions associated with inflammation. Traditional use from China, as well preliminary human study, seems to suggest that bupleurum and/or herbal combination formulas containing bupleurum may be helpful in the treatment of chronic hepatitis. Further research is warranted. Bupleurum may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. Some examples include aspirin, anticoagulants ("blood thinners") such as warfarin (Coumadin ®) or heparin, anti-platelet drugs such as clopidogrel (Plavix ®), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Motrin ®, Advil ®) or naproxen (Naprosyn ®, Aleve ®).Natural Standard Monograph, Copyright © 2008 (www.naturalstandard.com).
