Meditation Overview

 

   Summary:Various forms of meditation have been practiced for thousands of years throughout the world, with many techniques originating in Eastern religious practices. In modern times, numerous meditation types are in use, often outside of their original religious and cultural contexts. A common goal is to attain a state of "thoughtless awareness" of sensations and mental activities occurring at the present moment. Meditation is often popularly perceived as any activity through which a person's attention is focused on a repetitious thought or word.Scientific Evidence:Uses These uses have been tested in humans or animals. Yoga, Meditation, and the Reduction of Stress

In a pilot study from University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, it was found that mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), which included meditation, yoga, and body scanning exercises, was significantly effective in reducing stress and depression. Fifty participants took part in MBSR and cognitive-behavioral stress reduction (CBSR) course of eight weeks duration.

I had such severe pain in my knees that I often rode in a wheelchair until I met an alternative healer who took away the pain merely with touch and meditation. I was relieved of arthritis in a matter of a few minutes.

I just started drinking green tea because I heard it works well for arthritis. The jury's still out. I'll keep you posted on how it's working for me.

Meditation works great for my arthritis pain. I have found that through the practice I have been able to learn how to manage my pain pretty effectively. I use imagery and also try to shift my focus away from the pain.
