A chelation therapist is a CAM professional who treats patients with an intravenous therapy in order to rid the body of excess or toxic metals. Chelation is a chemical process in which a chemical substance is used to bind molecules, such as metals or minerals, and is then removed from the body. This initiates the body’s healing process and often reverses the damage. Chelation therapy is useful in treating atherosclerosis and other chronic degenerative diseases of the circulatory system as well as metal toxicity and other illnesses. It is also used as a preventive measure for cancer. As with any CAM treatment, please keep your CAM provider and PCP informed of any alternative or conventional treatments you are currently undergoing to insure safety and suitability.
