Pelvic exam: It is done to evaluate the health of the cervix and to check for any growth and abnormalities in the vagina.

Pregnancy test: It is done to test whether pregnancy has occurred and thus rule out menstrual irregularities.

Ultrasound: This test is done to check for fibroids and other abnormalities of the ovary that cause heavy bleeding or cramps.

Endometrial biopsy: This is done to check the uterine health in women with unusually heavy bleeding.

Surgical procedures: Laparascopy, hysteroscopy, and Dilation and Curettage (D&C) are done to view the inside of the pelvis or uterus, and to take a sample of tissue from the uterus.
