According to a clinical trial finding published in New England Journal of Medicine, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet could substantially lower blood pressure and thus prevent or even treat hypertension. The results were based on the study of 459 adults with high blood pressure who were randomly assigned a control diet or a DASH diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, and very low saturated and total fat. It was concluded that blood pressure could be lowered significantly in the DASH diet group.
