A double-blind, cross-over study published in the Journal of Nutrition indicates that daily consumption of dark chocolate containing plant sterols (PS) and cocoa flavanols (CF) could lower LDL cholesterol in people with high cholesterol. Following a trial on 49 adults, researchers from Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, University of Illinois, concluded that regular consumption of these chocolates as part of a low-fat diet could lower blood pressure as well as lower cholesterol levels in adults with elevated cholesterol.
