A systematic review, of 25 randomized clinical trials, by Thompson Coon JS and Ernst E from Peninsula Medical School, Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, United Kingdom, revealed that herbal medicinal products - Guggul, fenugreek, red yeast rice, and artichoke were beneficial in reducing the total serum cholesterol levels by ten to thirty three per cent. However, further research is required to support the efficacy of these extracts in the treatment of high cholesterol.
