Ron J. Swatzyna, PhD, LCSW is a Psychotherapist, Neurotherapist and Biofeedback Therapist for the Tarnow Center for Self-Management where he is in charge of the Neurotherapy Division.

Additionally, Dr. Swatzyna is a Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor and Certified Anger Resolution Therapist and is trained in forensic evaluation of traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and post-concussive syndrome using EEG/qEEG.
Dr. Swatzyna received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work (2004) and his Masters of Science in Social Work (1997) from The University of Texas Arlington, his Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from The University of the State of New York and his Associate in Applied Science in Marine Technology from Highline Community College.
Dr. Swatzyna started his career as a biofeedback therapist for Productive Rehabilitative Institute in Dallas for Ergonomics (PRIDE), training chronic pain patients on workers compensation, in self-regulation and self-management techniques. The next four years he worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, the Millwood Hospital in Arlington, Texas, specializing in adolescent treatment. The last two of those years he held the positions of Director of Social Services and Clinical Director of Outpatient Services treating adult psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. As a mental health volunteer for the American Red Cross Dr. Swatzyna worked on several national disasters and has treated patients from the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Twin Towers.
Dr. Swatzyna has presented his research at two international conferences: adolescent psychopathology in London, England, and women’s health in Copenhagen, Denmark. He currently is Principal Investigator of a collaborative study with The University of Texas at Houston Center for Human Development Research on the impact of excessive video gaming on adolescents.
Dr Swatzyna has authored several publications including, joint publications on disaster mental health and on international health education. His Master’s thesis focused on the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). His doctorate dissertation studied the impact of war on women’s reproductive health. He recently published several articles on a non-medication approach to the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Dr. Swatzyna has guest lectured for the University of Texas at Arlington in Neurophysiology, Endocrinology, Psychological Trauma courses. He was also involved in research, and continuing education in disaster and trauma recovery.
Lastly, Dr. Swatzyna is a Captain in the Air Force Reserves, a veteran who served in Vietnam and Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired in 2003 as a professional firefighter and EMT-I. |
