About me

Christian Østensen is a licensed Acupuncturist in the state of New York and is certified in Acupuncture and Chinese herbology by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Mission

In my practice I focus on natural alternatives to drugs for various diseases to create a lasting positive impact in patients' lives. As a traditional Chinese medical practitioner, I encourage patients to live in harmony with the natural biomechanics of the body and to pursue a path to peace and happiness.

History

I was raised in an artistic and athletic environment in Norway and lived a suburban childhood in Kolstad, Trondheim. I graduated from the Norwegian National College of Dance and went on to become a performance artist. After eight years of professional movement studies with emphasis on anatomy, training and nutrition I began a new career in Chinese medicine. I was attracted by the Asian medicine and Asian philosophy perspectives on health and well-being.

Education

My life journey has taken me through three colleges: Trondheim College of Engineering, the Norwegian National College of Dance, and the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. After graduating from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2003, I started my practice in Greenwich Village (Union Square).

Acupuncture is one of the essential components of Traditional Chinese Medicine; it stimulation of anatomical points on the body in order to restore and maintain health. The most commonly used technique involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by hand or electrical stimulation. Individuals visit acupuncturists for back pain, headaches, migraines, anxiety, insomnia, sports injuries, digestive problems, abdominal problems, menstrual cramps, weight problems, and infertility. As with any CAM treatment, please keep your CAM provider and PCP informed of any alternative or conventional treatments you are currently undergoing to insure safety and suitability.
