"Adolescent, adult, & couples therapy"
About me
I am a therapist in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, specializing in adolescent, adult, and couples counseling.

I enjoy helping women and men of all ages, as well as adolescents, to develop new insights, make changes in their lives, and find happiness. I am experienced in working with clients to increase self-awareness, learn new skills, make good decisions, manage grief and suffering, respond to hardship, and create more fulfilling relationships.

I work effectively with people who need assistance with mood issues (depression, sadness, anxiety, worry, fear, anger), family conflict (divorce, re-marriage, intimacy and relationship issues), identity issues (LGBTQ, multicultural), emotional distress, stress, life direction, and spirituality and meaning.

I believe in the power of a therapeutic relationship to provide a space for working out difficult feelings, figure out how to manage life transitions and relationship challenges, or achieve a more purposeful life.

I encourage my clients to be open to a dialogue with me in which we discover insights they may not have had about themselves. With compassion and humor, we make our way in a relationship of honesty and trust as we identify changes – small and large – which might help them live more happily and successfully. Sometimes this means uncovering unconscious motivations; sometimes we identify how thoughts and behavior affect their feelings.

I invite you to set up a consultation with me to explore what you are seeking and how we might work together.

Psychotherapy
A psychotherapist is a trained mental health care professional who helps people identify and work through the factors that may be the cause of psychological or emotional distress. Psychotherapy is the treatment of emotional or behavioral problems through the use of psychological techniques, often in one-to-one interviews or small groups. Psychotherapy is beneficial for many conditions such as depression, binge eating. It also helps the patient in developing skills for improving relationships, as well as understanding self, personal goals, and values. As with any CAM treatment, please keep your CAM provider and PCP informed of any alternative or conventional treatments you are currently undergoing to insure safety and suitability.
