A research study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders suggests that depression during pregnancy can be treated successfully with acupuncture. Researchers from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University, USA, conducted a randomized, double blind, controlled study on 61 pregnant women with major depressive disorder. They were given standardized but individually tailored treatment for eight weeks to ten weeks. Lowered depression scores were observed in responders after the treatment.
