The term allergy is used to describe a response, within the body, to a substance, which is not necessarily harmful in itself, but results in an immune response and a reaction that causes symptoms and disease in a predisposed person, which in turn can cause inconvenience, or a great deal of misery. An allergy is everything from a runny nose, itchy eyes and palate to skin rash. It aggravates the sense of smell, sight, tastes and touch causing irritation, extreme disability and sometimes fatality. It occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances.

  • There is unclear or conflicting evidence as to whether acupuncture is an effective treatment for chronic sinusitis. More well-designed studies are needed to determine whether or not acupuncture offers benefit in chronic sinusitis patients.
  • Preliminary research suggests that acupuncture may effectively treat hives. However, further research is needed to confirm these results.

Jeanette Jarmon Local honey dispels allergies created by local allergens. If I feel an allergic reaction coming on I can take 1 teaspoon of honey and the reaction will stop. I make "honey toast" every few days and keep my immune system up, and now I have very few reactions. And those are triggered if I am stirring up allergens raking old leaves and such. I saw total improvement in my young granddaughters (8 and 2). ( I am aware not to give honey to those under one year of age.) We have all stopped taking Claritin. I live in the South with plenty of plants flowering, trees budding and shedding. I also drink milk at the same time, because of the positive remarks in the Bible about "milk and honey".
