Psychotherapy : There is good evidence that psychotherapy can enhance cancer patients' quality of life by reducing emotional distress and helping them cope with the stresses and challenges of cancer. Therapy may be supportive-expressive therapy, cognitive therapy or group therapy. Studies conflict on whether therapy improves self-esteem, death anxiety and self-satisfaction. While some patients seek psychotherapy in hopes of extending survival, there is no conclusive evidence of effects on medical prognosis.

Psychotherapy cannot always fix mental or emotional conditions. Psychiatric drugs are sometimes needed. In some cases symptoms may worsen if the proper medication is not taken. Not all therapists are qualified to work with all problems. Use cautiously with serious mental illness or some medical conditions because some forms of psychotherapy may stir up strong emotional feelings and expressions.
