According to a randomized clinical pilot study published in the Journal of Manipulative, and Physiological Therapeutics, chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) along with optimal medical management substantially improves the quality of life and significantly lowers the severity of asthma in children. Thirty six patients aged 6 to 17 years with mild and moderate persistent asthma underwent 20 chiropractic treatment sessions over a period of three months. Results showed that asthma severity reduced by 39 per cent and there was an overall improvement of about 50- 75 per cent. The researchers also assessed the feasibility of conducting a full-scale, randomized clinical trial and found it to be successful and feasible.
