What are the guidelines for a healthy person say 40 years old?

Yes you do, given the food available in markets. A multi as a base, the rest will depend on what healthy means for you and on your activities.

Cindy, with the commercial farm and the limited number of nutrients that are replace (only 3) the nutritional value of the foods we eat has decresed by up to 50% over the past few decades.

We should all try to obtain our vitamins from the foods we eat as they are the best source of nutrition and have all the chemical components and synergists necessary for our bodies to utilize.

That being said, supplements have been a great help to me. There are RDA's (Recommended Daily Allowances) though it is important to point out that these are the minimum requirements for the body so illnesses are not created.
