Yes!! Yoga really isn't about flexibility. It's about opening up your energy channels through age-old yogic movement. You can do yoga no matter how flexible or inflexible) you are.

Don't worry about your level of flexibility when you are doing yoga. In fact, many hypermobile (flexible) people injure themselves going overboard or by not paying attention to bodily boundaries. When the connective tissue is loose and flexible, one must compensate by supporting those areas more carefully. Being inflexible helps beginning students to mitigate that "edge" by physically stopping the yogi from going further, and possibly being hurt. That said, I have never had a student who practiced regularly fail to see enhanced flexibiltiy as a result of their efforts!

Niteen, often we think of Yoga as exercise. This is only one aspect of this path to self realization.

The asanas or postures are used to release tension from the physical body and have a profound effect upon all systems of the body. Yoga as exercise has been described historically to help to prepare the body for this journey of the spirit.

It is important to find an experienced instructor who is able to modify the asanas based on one's current abilities. As with all things, with practice flexibility can be improved. Further benefits include detoxification, relaxation and stress management and release of anxiety.

In peace,
