Q

Ayurvedic medicine and metal content, does this make all Ayurvedic therapies suspect?

A recent JAMA article found that One-fifth of both US-manufactured and Indian-manufactured Ayurvedic medicines purchased via the Internet contain detectable lead, mercury, or arsenic. So basic question is - "Are all Ayurvedic remedies bad?"

No I do not think it does. Generally, if a company has GMP manufacturing practices even if in another country the products will have standards similar to those manufactured here. Also, there are companies here that manufacture ayurvedic medicines without contaminants. Best, Dr. Taryn DeCicco

Absolutely not,all Ayurvedic remedies do not have metal content. Traditionally some Ayurvedic remedies have always contained small amounts of metals but they are used very sparingly, only for very difficult cases. In my practice,I trust only herbs that come from Himalaya Health Care,Biotique and Organic India.

It is very important for patients/clients to only go to Ayurvedic practionners that they have complete faith in.."
