Ayurveda Overview

 
 

   Summary:Ayurveda is a form of natural medicine that originated in ancient India over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda is an integrated system of techniques that uses diet, herbs, exercise, meditation, yoga, and massage or bodywork to achieve optimal health on all levels (physical, psychological and spiritual). In India, Ayurveda involves the eight principal branches of medicine: pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics ophthalmology, geriatrics, otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat), general medicine and surgery.Scientific Evidence:Uses These uses have been tested in humans or animals. The three forms of nasal irrigation therapies used in clinical trials have been saline lavage, which uses a warm liquid solution of salt water; humidified warm air lavage (in hyperthermia or low body temperature); and large-particle nebulized aerosol therapy, which uses an aerosolized (droplets spread in the air) saline solution. Occasionally, antibiotics are added to the solution.
